Bible Shield

A Christian app blocker you unlock by praying. Apple Screen Time holds the distracting apps shut during your chosen hours, and a guided prayer is what opens them.

Overview

Bible Shield is an app blocker with one unusual key: "the christian app blocker you pray to unlock." You pick the apps and the hours; during that window they stay shut, and the way through is a guided prayer rather than a countdown or a "skip" button.

That swap is the whole idea. Every other blocker makes the friction arbitrary — wait 15 seconds, type a long sentence, answer a maths question — so the friction is just a toll you learn to pay. Here the friction is the thing you said you wanted more of. The moment you reach for the phone out of habit becomes the moment you pray.

What it does

  • Blocking that actually holds. Built on Apple's Screen Time framework, with customisable windows for when the shield is up.
  • Guided prayers. Daily prayers written for the state you are actually in, and in the language of your denomination — Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and others phrase things differently, and the app follows that.
  • The full Bible. Multiple translations, search, highlights and notes.
  • A verse where you will see it. Home screen and lock screen widgets carry the daily devotional verse.
  • Other people. A prayer wall and live prayer rooms, running across nine languages.
  • Something to keep. Prayer streaks and a running count of the time you took back.

Platforms

iPhone and iPad have the full feature set, app blocking included, since Screen Time is an Apple framework. Android is on the way and will ship without the blocking half.

Interface languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Korean and Filipino.

Free tier covers the basics. Premium unlocks unlimited guided prayers and the full library, billed weekly or yearly after a three-day trial.
